Well-known faces from most motor sport drivers disciplines were present at Goodwood Revival 2010, including Formula One stars, rally winners, endurance racing champions, tin top tearaways and top bikers; often competing in the rarest of machines.
Star names racing at Goodwood Revival 2010 include legends such as Sir Stirling Moss who was in his OSCA for the Madgwick Cup and Le Mans deity Tom Kristensen who raced a Ferrari 330LMB in the TT Celebration. Red Bull team principal and former F3000 man Christian Horner also drove in this one-hour race, up against the F1 squad’s designer Adrian Newey and former Indy 500 winner Bobby Rahal. Le Mans Winner Richard Attwood was very busy, driving a BRM P261 in the Glover Trophy, Ferrari 246 Dino in the Richmond Trophy, Ford Falcon in the St Mary’s Trophy and an AC Cobra in the TT Celebration.
Ex-F1 star and ten-time Grand Prix winner Gerhard Berger rode a motorcycle in the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy, as well as campaigned a lightweight Jaguar E-Type in the Royal Automobile Club TT Celebration race. Other ex-Grand Prix stars driving wheel-to-wheel at Goodwood included popular F1 TV presenter Martin Brundle (driving a Ferrari 250 GTO and Austin A35 – two cars which epitomise the variety of machines competing at the Revival), veteran F1 driver Jackie Oliver (Jaguar E-Type and Ford Anglia 100E), and the only female driver ever to win an F1 race – Desire Wilson (Jaguar E-Type, Austin A40 and unique Formula Junior Nota).
Endurance and touring car stars that competed include Emanuele Pirro, Derek Bell, Vern Schuppan, Jim Richards, John Cleland, while Scandinavian rally legends Rauno Aaltonen and James Haugland also entertained the Revival spectators. Goodwood stalwarts Sir Jackie Stewart, Jochen Mass, Brian Redman and Barry ‘Whizzo’ Williams were also in attendance, while motorcycling heroes included Goodwood Revival regular Wayne Gardner, TT-winners Stuart Graham, Charlie Williams and Ian Simpson, and former MotoGP rider Jeremy McWilliams.
While the drivers are stars of the weekend, the ultimate attention at Goodwood Revival 2010 was rightfully on the cars. The highlight of the vintage racing weekend for many spectators was the one-hour, two-driver Royal Automobile Club TT Celebration race that featured many internationally-renowned historic cars, including Jaguar E-type lightweights; four Ferrari 250 GTOs, Ferrari 250 GT SWBs and 330 LM/B; Aston Martin DB4GT, Zagato and Project car and AC Cobras. Other races saw notables as Jaguar C and D-Types; Aston Martin DBR1s; Ford GT40s; Maserati 200; Porsche 550s; not to mention the epic Formula One racers on the track.
