The name Guy Griffiths may not be familiar to many motorsports enthusiasts in the United States but in the United Kingdom and Europe, the Griffiths name is synonymous with outstanding post-World War II motorsports photography. In fact, Griffiths has been called England’s greatest post-war racing photographer. During his five-decade career, his images regularly graced the pages of racing magazines and books, including the UK publication Motor Sport magazine. Griffiths covered all types of racing competition, including Grand Prix, Formula One, hillclimbs, dirt and grass track, motorcycles and speed trials along with veteran car and vintage racecar events.
In the 1960s Griffiths also began a second career in the clothing business that proved to be quite successful, and he raced several of the cars in his collection in club events. During this period he also founded the “Griffiths Formula” that became Historics Sports Car Club (HSCC) an organization still active today as the leading organizer of vintage racing events in the UK. As if he wasn’t busy enough, he continued photographing motoring events, meticulously cataloging his growing collection of photos.
