Briton Steve Hartley wrapped up both the Post-1978 class and the overall Masters Historic F1 Championship by winning the season’s penultimate race at Spa in his Arrows A4-Ford, but 2nd place in the class was still up for grabs at the season-ending Jerez Historic Festival. There, Ensign MN180-Ford driver Simon Fish emphatically settled the matter, taking victory in both post-’78 races at the Spanish circuit, overcoming Joaquin Folsch (Brabham BT49C-Ford) in the first heat and Rob Hall (Ligier JS17-Matra) in the second.
In the Pre-1978 Championship, top honors went to Brabham BT42-Ford pilot Manfredo Rossi di Montelera, the Italian prevailing from British driver Andrew Beaumont (Lotus 76-Ford) despite championship runner-up Beaumont posting a pair of 2nd-place finishes at Jerez as Patrick D’Aubreby scored a double win with his March 761-Ford.
