The winners of the 2019 “La Leggenda di Bassano–Giannino Marzotto Trophy”were Andrea Giacoppo and Daniela Grillone Tecioiu, from Vicenza in a 1933 Fiat 508 S Coppa d’Oro, who confirmed themselves as champions once again after winning the 2017 and 2018 editions. With more than 600 km of twisty roads through the beautiful Dolomites, 90teams took part in the 25th edition of “La Leggenda di Bassano”which crossed the border into Switzerland and went through 10 Dolomite passes, including the mythical Gavia Pass, for a truly outstanding edition of the regularity race held from June 20 to 23 and organized by the Circolo Veneto Automoto d’Epoca “G. Marzotto”.
La Leggenda di Bassano is a historical motor-racing event, unique in the world because it is reserved exclusively for Sport-Barchetta racing cars built until 1959. The event is included in the international FIVA (Fédération Internationale des Vèhicules Anciens) calendar and the ASI (Automotoclub Storico Italiano) calendar.
The grand finale, after having faced the last trial for the “City of Bassano Trophy”, was held as usual in Piazza Libertà, Bassano del Grappa.
“This year’s edition,” confirms Stefano Chiminelli, President of the Circolo Veneto Automoto d’Epoca “G. Marzotto”, “has shown that those taking part in this competition are true ‘Legends’. They faced a hard stretch through the biggest Dolomite passes that reached its apex in the very difficult climb up the Gavia Pass, which became more arduous as a result of the difficult weather conditions. The great spirit of friendship that exists between these drivers and their constant perseverance obviously made the difference; they covered the demanding route enthusiastically and left everyone with unique memories. My thanks go naturally to all of my team which, through its commitment, made all this possible, and also to the Road Police, the Police Motoclub, the Green Cross, Bassano Rally Racing, our partners, ASI, ACI Vicenza, the Veneto Region and the Municipality of Bassano del Grappa which kindly gave us its patronage, and the public and private institutions that supported us. My special thanks go to the many journalists present, who lived the experience of this unique event. This incredible 25th edition, in memory of brothers Danilo and Renato Calmonte, will certainly remain in history and in our hearts, just like all the others.”
