Historic Motorsports Productions (HMP) hired Vicki O’Connor as the Vice President of Operations for its Legends of Motorsports Series. O’Connor has previously served in a similar role for the Atlantics Championship Series and will now be responsible for day-to-day management of the Legends series, as well as serving as a primary liaison to tracks and participants.
“I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Vicki for many years and respect her talent and dedication immensely,” said HMP partner Bobby Rahal. “I’m confident she will make an immediate and outstanding contribution to our venture.”
O’Connor is a long-time motorsports executive, and most recently operated the Atlantic Championship, a post she held from 1985 through the 2009 season before joining HMP. She led the Atlantic Championship through its most commercially successful time with series partners Toyota and Yokohama, and later Mazda and Cooper Tire. She earned what she refers to as her “Ph.D. in motorsports” while working for noted team owner and race car importer Carl Haas, a job that lasted 12 years.
“I am truly delighted to join Bobby Rahal, Zak Brown and Peter Stoneberg in Historic Motorsports Productions,” said O’Connor. “Vintage Racing is truly a magical form of motorsports, and I look forward to visiting the stellar race circuits on the “Legends of Motorsports” tour. While the cars are fantastic, so are the participants themselves and I look forward to making new friends and renewing old acquaintances.”
HMP will manage and stage an annual series of premium vintage racing events and related lifestyle experiences at several historic North American racing venues. To date, three 2010 HMP-promoted events have been announced all under the “Bobby Rahal’s Legends of Motorsports” banner and include Alabama’s Barber Motorsports Park on May 20-23, New York’s Watkins Glen International on June 11-13 and at Canada’s Circuit Mont-Tremblant on July 10-12, 2010.
The races hosted by HMP will include a full complement of the most prestigious vintage racing cars and classes. These include GTP/Group C; 3.0 Liter era Formula One; F.I.A. Championship of Makes; 2.0 Liter Sports Racers; Trans-Am; Can-Am; NASCAR; IMSA GT/Production Cars; Formula Libre and F5000.
Along with vintage races, HMP will organize and promote vintage lifestyle automotive lifestyle events, including local parades of race cars, vintage period fashion, food and wine festivals, concerts, auctions and Concours d’Elegance events. The events will be positioned consistent with the demographics and lifestyle of the participants and the public.
