In an unlikely turn of events, the historic GTP cars brought by HSR to support this year’s 24 Hours of Daytona proved to be faster than the fastest professional Grand-Am prototypes for the main event. In the GTP/Group C race, 3rd place finisher Stan Wattles in a 1992 Lola T92/10 posted the race’s fastest time at 1:41.756, while the pole time for the 24 Hours, set by Scott Pruett in Chip Ganassi’s Riley and Scott, was 1:45.783. Perhaps the Grand-Am might be interested in supporting some historic events next year!
