The new Historic Motorsports Productions organization has scheduled three events for its inaugural 2010 season. Watkins Glen International was the first track to announce its affiliation with the new organization, but it won’t be hosting the first event, as that honor will go to Barber Motorsports Park. The Alabama track will kick off the first of the three “Bobby Rahal’s Legends of Motorsports” weekends on May 20-23. The Watkins Glen outing will then follow on June 11-13, with the third date going to Quebec’s Le Circuit Mont Tremblant on July 10-12.
“Barber Motorsports Park is a jewel among North American racing facilities,” noted HMP co-founder Rahal. “The attention to detail throughout the property is unsurpassed. The Barber organization’s appreciation and respect for racing evolution is obvious, making any vintage racing event on their grounds a tradition in the making.”
“By hosting world class racing for many years, Watkins Glen International is a perfect host for vintage racing,” said WGI president Michael Printup. “For decades, Bobby Rahal has thrilled our fans behind the wheel of all kinds of racecars. It’s an honor to join with him in creating a great new event at our track.” The HMP weekend will replace the previously held Watkins Glen Historics on The Glen’s annual calendar.
“Through the years, Circuit Mont-Tremblant has hosted many of the greatest drivers in the world, and Bobby Rahal is certainly among them,” said the Laurentian Mountains track’s general manager, Vincent Loughran. “It’s an honor to have him return to our course. We are excited to present a true celebration of extraordinary people and racing machines.”
The races at all three events will feature a variety of highly popular classes and cars, including Can-Am; Trans-Am; GTP/Group C; 3.0-liter-era Formula One; Formula 5000; FIA Championship of Makes; 2.0-liter Sports Racers; NASCAR; IMSA GT/Production Cars; and Formula Libre.
