The “James Cagney Auburn V12 Salon Cabriolet” heads the star cast of outstanding motorcars to be sold at Worldwide Auctioneers The Auburn Auction.
The 1934 Auburn V12 Salon Cabriolet used in the movie “The Mayor of Hell’ and owned by famous actor James Cagney, will join an exceptional line up of fine automobiles to be presented for sale at this years The Auburn Auction.
“Auburn is where the Movie Stars came to buy the most prestigious cars in America”, said Managing Partner John Kruse. “I am thrilled to have one of the most important motorcars produced by The Auburn Automobile Company back in Auburn, Indiana to be sold at our auction. Screen legend and Oscar winning actor James Cagney’s association with this car makes it even more fitting”.
Aside from its associations with Hollywood, the vehicle is significant in its own right. Only four 1934 Auburn V12 Salon Convertibles were produced and this is the sole example equipped with rear mounted spare. Its V12 engine was first introduced by Auburn in 1932, delivering a top speed of 93mph, considered astounding in its day. Its restoration was completed by renowned pre-war specialists, Classic & Exotic Cars Inc of Troy, Michigan and the car retains its original engine, body and chassis. In the words of Rod Egan, Managing Partner and Chief Auctioneer; “The Auburn V12 Salon Cabriolet is one of the most impressive automobiles of its era. The combination of such low production and notable ownership make this car a collectors dream”.
