The International Motor Racing Research Center in Watkins Glen, N.Y., annually raffles off a desirable car as a way to raise funds to supplement the Center’s budget. The latest of these cars was a 1984 Corvette originally owned by Jim Gilmore, long-time friend and sponsor of A.J. Foyt. Last November’s drawing, performed by Watkins Glen mayor Judy Phillips, was won by Larry Kessler from nearby Webster, N.Y.
That’s not the story here, however. Kessler is a competitor in SVRA and HSR events with his Chevron B36, and as a council member has long supported the IMRRC. The twist to this story is that he has decided to donate the car back to the Center, which will sell the Corvette and allocate the money to its regular programs and services. You should be proud Mr. Kessler, the Center and the sport are very appreciative of your generosity.
