A historically unlikely motorsport marriage was consummated at the end of July. Former Ligier and Williams Formula One driver Jacques Laffite joined forces with the Morgan car company to race a Morgan Aero 8 GT at this year’s 24 Hours of Spa.
The French racing star, who scored six wins and ten 2nd place finishes during his 1974–1986 Formula One career, joined co-drivers Neil Cunningham and Paula Cook behind the wheel for the Belgian endurance classic, only to have their efforts cut short by a shunt in pouring rain.
Undaunted, the team is continuing to work towards competing in next year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. According to Morgan managing director Charles Morgan, “We are really honored to have Jacques Laffite behind the wheel of a Morgan. This is a really exciting development for us, and I’m sure for Morgan supporters worldwide.”
