Lamborghini Countach LP400 For Sale
Details: V12 Longitudinal, Mid-Mounted DOHC per bank; Red/Tan; 7,250 miles
Price: Currently bid to $440,600 as of 3/3/08; seller states that reserve is set at $450,000, but that he will accept current bid.
Market: While the May-August “Cars That Matter” guide suggests a $153,000 price for a #1 condition Countach, the market for an early Countach has escalated very quickly over the past year. Who knows where it stands today? Actually, the beauty of eBay is that we know exactly where it stands today – see above. Still, this is a very strong bid, especially in this recessionary economy.

Seller Comments: “Very very rare early “parascope” car. Only a little over 100 LP 400’s produced, very few of which were shipped to the US. How many could be left? Blood red with beautiful creme leather interior. Smooth V 12 that runs and sounds great with Original 6 Webers. Mechanically very sound with smooth clutch and brakes. Paint is very good with a few minor flaws. Original wheels including original spare. Recently obtained from fussy older gentleman who owned the car for over 25 years. 7250 Original Miles. A world class collector’s piece perfectly suited to any exotic collection. Interested in Enzo.”
SCD Comments: SCD has lusted after a Countach ever since the Cannonball Run/Alpine poster days of yore. Although our childhood walls were plastered with Countach posters, we subsequently changed our mind about owning a Countach after learning how difficult they are to own, maintain, etc. In other words, once we grew up and reality kicked in, we realized that maybe a Countach is best admired on your wall. This Countach changes it all. We want it; even if we have to sit on the sidewall to back it up, and even if the cost to maintain forces us to sell our house. We want to stare at it for hours on end. We want to drive it…well, actually that isn’t the overwhelming reason we want it. We simply want to look at it for hours on end, and dream how great it is on the road. Perhaps we are better off buying a poster again.

Very funny profile. I, too, had the Alpine Lamborghini poster on my wall growing up.
