The Lime Rock Historic Festival 2014 was held August 29th to September 1st at the 7-turn, 1.5 mile Lime Rock Park road course in Connecticut. Lime Rock Park’s 32nd annual Labor Day weekend event featured a strong field of more than 260 vintage race cars grouped in nine racing classes.
Historic Festival 32 celebrated a selection of automobiles from the collection of Honored Collector Ralph Lauren, including a 1953 Morgan Flat Rad; 1964 Ferrari 250 LM; 1929 Birkin Blower Bentley 4.5-Litre Vanden Plas; 1956 Jaguar XKSS and 1959 Porsche RSK.
In addition, Sir Stirling Moss and wife Lady Susie were featured guests at this year’s Historics, with Sir Stirling signing autographs and driving demonstration laps in the very same Team Briggs Cunningham OSCA MT4 that Moss drove to overall victory at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1954.
Race groups included Nippy and Agile for road-going production Sports and GT; Dawn of Real Performance for Pre-War Sports and Racing; Everyman’s Formula for Formula Junior; Let’s Go Racing for Post War Club Racing Cars; 1950s and ’60s Flyers for Mid-Century Sports and Racing; No Holds Barred for Formula Libre; Wild, Wild Horses for Big-Bore Production Sports and GT; Not Quite Street Legal for Modified Production and Speedy and Sophisticated for Post-1965 Sports Racing.
Notable and interesting entrants at the Lime Rock Fall Festival 2014 included the 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta of Herb Wetanson; 1959 Aston Martin DB4 GT of Jim Freeman; 1961 Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ of John Goodman; 1957 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce Zagato of Mark Auriana; 1935 “Old Grey Mare” Special of Ben Bragg; 1931 Bugatti Type 37 of Sandy Leith; 1931 Alfa Romeo Tipo B P3 of Peter Giddings; 1935 Alfa Romeo 8C 35 of Peter Greenfield; 1956 Fiat Abarth of Gunnar Jeannette and 1964 Porsche 904 GTS of Sandra McNeil and a great selection of Abarths; among many others.
The Group Two VSCCA Cup race ended on a sad note Saturday, as Lee Duran of Lyme, Connecticut passed away from injuries suffered during a single-car accident involving his 1934 MG PA Special. This was the first fatality in the event’s 32-year history. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Mr. Duran.

Great photos!!! Thank you for sharing!
Exceptional photography, surpassing even SCD’s high standard. Thanks, Michael.
Can anyone identify the silver #328 Alfa coupe in photo 43, appearing again on the right side of photo 47. It’s labeled
“1957 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce Z.”
Wait! I found it in Google images.
“A rare and amazing Zagato-bodied and -produced Giulietta Sprint . . . owned By Larry Auriana of Stamford, CT and
driven (very well) by his brother Mark. The precursor to the famous Sprint Zagato, the car’s slanting nose is very attractive,
and this is one of only four ever made with the double bubble roof.”
What a doll!

And scroll down for more photos.
Thanks SCD – I’ve been an Alfa fan for fifty+ years, but I’d never seen nor heard of this car.
You should offer to sell custom prints from these events. The work is that good!
Yes, really nice car photography, with very few tilted pictures to make us believe the car is on a banked turn. That’s become a trend with race photographers, and it destroys credibility. Along with cars, I’d sure like to see some people pictures. I believe, after spending a career as a photojournalist and professional automotive, air show, and vintage car and aviation photographer to leading magazines, that most spectators attend races also to see the other people. Some pit and grandstand pictures would be as interesting as the cars.
Just looking back on Lime Rock and it is such a pleasure to see Michael’s shots
Great Photography,
