The man who established Great Britain’s National Motor Museum at Beaulieu has died at the age of 88. Edward John Barrington Douglas-Scott-Montagu, 3rd Baron Montagu of Beaulieu, succumbed following a short illness.
Lord Montagu was a champion of the historic vehicle movement, and founded the National Motor Museum, opened by the Duke of Kent in 1972 on the 7,000-acre Beaulieu estate. He was also a leading authority on veteran and vintage cars, and usually took part in the London to Brighton run.
He is survived by his wife Fiona, his son and heir Ralph, daughter Mary and second son Jonathan, to whom, as well as his many friends in the industry, Vintage Roadcar extends its deepest sympathies.
