Mecum Auctions is returning to Houston with its collector car auction for a fifth consecutive year on the weekend of April 14-16, with prospective buyers converging upon the NRG Center for the sale of an estimated 1,000 American muscle cars, Corvettes, classics, Hot Rods, Resto Mods and more.
One of the main attractions is a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Tanker (above) that has earned the industry’s most-stringent judging accolades including Bloomington Gold certification, NCRS Top Flight and Chevy VetteFest Gold Spinner awards. The Sebring Silver example is one of 199 Z06 split-window coupes produced in 1963, and is one of only 63 that were factory-equipped with the RPO N03 36-gallon fuel tank.
Also among the consignments is a pair of Shelby GT500s and a Ford Mustang Boss 429. The 1967 Shelby GT500 fastback, one of 2,048 produced that year, has a 428cid/355hp police interceptor V8 engine, a “believed-actual” 37,332 miles, and its dashboard is autographed by Carroll Shelby. The 1968 GT500KR convertible has a 428cid 4-barrell Cobra Jet V8 engine and Toploader four-speed transmission with a Hurst shifter. The 1970 Boss 429 fastback is one of just 52 examples produced with rare Grabber Green paint, and features an 820-A Boss 429 engine.
