When Mecum Auctions returns to Denver’s Colorado Convention Center for its second annual sale this weekend, an estimated 700 American muscle cars, classics, Corvettes, Hot Rods and Resto Mods from some 15 surrounding states are expected to cross the auction block.
Leading the selection is a 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1 (above) finished in Saturn Yellow paint that holds the distinction of being a two-time GS Club of America Nationals winner. This striking muscle car includes the rare dealer-installed Stage II package and is motivated by a matching-numbers 455cid/360-horsepower V8 engine.
Another rare machine set to come up for bid is a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette convertible that’s one of only 267 equipped with J56 power brakes. Powered by a big-block 427cid/390-horsepower V8 engine, the Sunfire Yellow convertible features a host of options, including factory air conditioning. Also on the docket is a 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition with a 5.4L/550-bhp supercharged V8, finished in the blue-and-orange Gulf Oil livery in tribute to the John Wyer Racing GT40 #1075 that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in in both 1968 and 1969.
