The 29th Annual Mecum Original Spring Auction returns once again to the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis on the weekend of May 17-21 for an event headlined as usual by American muscle cars. The five-day sale attracts consignments from across the nation and tens of thousands of spectators annually, with this year’s event offering some 2,000 consignments.
Leading the pack this year will be 17 cars from the Joe McMurray Collection, including a 1967 Shelby 427 Cobra roadster (above, David Newhardt photo Courtesy Mecum Auctions), a 1965 Shelby GT350 Fastback and a 1967 Shelby GT350 Fastback. Other notable offerings include: from the Mike Guarise Collection, a pair of 1970 Buick GS Stage 1 four-speed convertibles, two of just 67 ever built, and a 1971 Stage 1 convertible that is one of just 11 built; from the Jeffrey Cohen Collection, one of 50 factory-built 1968 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet Lightweights; and the Kirt Fryer 1971 Mustang Collection that comprises six 1971 performance Mustangs—two Boss 351s and four Cobra Jets, all offered with no reserves.
