Even while the Arizona auctions were at their peak Mecum started up for its 10-day marathon in central Florida.
Kissimmee is so big Mecum has to organize its own transportation authority with a fleet of golf carts shuttling people from one end of the Park to the other, a giant Uber constantly circulating and willing to go where asked with no fixed destinations. By the end of the event there isn’t a pair of feet on-site that doesn’t welcome the relief.
The Mecum Kissimmee 2015 auction featured several collections of outstanding cars including the Wellborn Collection muscle cars and Roger Judski’s low mileage Corvettes. All of that, however, paled in comparison with the excitement generated by the 1959 Harley-Davidson FLH Duo-Glide.
It wasn’t the bike, although it was a one-owner from new Panhead. It was the owner, Rock’n’Roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis, who presented the bike to the crowd, avidly watched it bid higher and higher until the reserve was lifted and it sold for a record-shattering $350,000, an exciting moment in auction history exceeded only by Jerry Lee’s famed energetic performance style.
He showed his appreciation to the standing-room-only crowd after the hammer fell by sitting down at a piano and belting out “Great Balls of Fire”. At 79, “The Killer” has lost none of his style and enthusiasm.

It is difficult to comprehend the magnitude of this event, which challenges the senses and individual endurance. The logistics are breathtaking, the planning epic, the sale total staggering.
Looking at the aggregate numbers it is apparent that Mecum is getting better and better at identifying what its Kissimmee audience wants and finding better (and more valuable) consignments to offer them. A sell-through rate of nearly 75% for a 2,000+ car field is not simply an accomplishment, it is a triumph of planning, organization and continuing, consistent effort.
Kissimmee has become a destination event on its own with thousands of cars spread out over acres of fields, tents and buildings, a 10-day excuse to escape winter’s snow, cold and slush for central Florida’s heat and humidity and a riot of collector cars from sublime to entry-level.

Lot # K61 1964 Buick Riviera Coupe; S/N 7K1131268; Light Green/White vinyl; Visually maintained, largely original, 3+ condition; Hammered Sold at $15,000 plus commission of 8.00%; Final Price $16,200. With Reserve – 425/340hp, automatic, black steel wheels with wire wheel covers, Hankook narrow whitewall radial tires, chrome dual exhaust, power steering, power brakes, power seat, tilt steering column, power antenna, bucket seats, factory pushbutton radio. – Very good, shiny paint with microblisters on the hood. Presentable chrome. Lightly scratched brightwork. Strong interior with light general wear. Represented as having 88,081 actual miles. A car that has seen some restoration work, enough to keep it an attractive driver. – 1964 was Riviera’s second year, one of the prettiest, classiest, automobiles ever to come out of Detroit and they still convey their design refinement. This car was offered at Mecum’s Harrisburg sale last July where it reached a high bid of $13,500 without selling. It fared a bit better here in Kissimmee and brought a good result for both the buyer and the seller.
Lot # K62 1991 Mercedes-Benz 560SEC Coupe; S/N WDBCA45E5MA572783; Black/Black leather piped in Gray; Unrestored original, 3 condition; Hammered Sold at $5,500 plus commission of 9.09%; Final Price $6,000. With Reserve – Cooper tires, sunroof, tinted windows, power windows, power heated seats, factory stereo, AMG wheels. – All original. Decent paint with some scratches and swirl marks. Dull exterior plastic. Lightly worn upholstery. Cracked dash in several places. Very rough-looking gauges. Reasonably well kept and looks like a car with significantly fewer than the 176,000 miles on the odometer, but I still shudder at the thought of the service bills that could start piling up as soon as this late W126 gets home. – A remarkably well maintained big Mercedes with ample open road power and luxury but now with dated style. It’s a car with little appeal and the seller should be entirely happy to get this much for it.
Lot # K68 1983 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider; S/N ZARBA5416D1016019; Cream/Tan leather; Black cloth top; Visually maintained, largely original, 3- condition; Hammered Sold at $6,500 plus commission of 8.00%; Final Price $7,020. With Reserve – Bosch fuel injection, 5-speed, Campagnolo wheels, Geostar tires, woodrim steering wheel, wood shift knob, Blaupunkt cassette stereo. – Advertised as one-year-old exterior restoration, but the paint looks older and the brightwork looks original. The top does at least look new. Good, only lightly worn interior. Scruffy original engine bay. An ’83 Alfa Spider with 67,000 miles and a respray. That about sums it up, and that’s not good. – A tacky Alfa bought for an appropriately tacky Alfa price. Even with a lot of attention and detailing it’s not going to be worth much more than this on its best day.
Lot # K77.1 1965 Plymouth Barracuda Fastback; S/N V852679539; Red, , White stripe/Black vinyl; Visually maintained, largely original, 3 condition; Hammered Sold at $17,000 plus commission of 8.00%; Final Price $18,360. With Reserve – 273/220hp, automatic, steel wheels with hub caps, Kumho Solus tires, dual exhaust, factory air conditioning, factory pushbutton radio. – Decent older paint. Very good chrome bumpers. Tired, pitted brightwork. Very good newer interior. Solid underneath. Not a star car in either its condition or equipment, but an attractive driver. – Unusual, too, because this is the first generation fastback Barracuda. With all that glass it needs the A/C on a sunny day where the interior heats up like a greenhouse. The claimed 220hp V-8 is a question since Barracudas in 1965 came only with 180hp (2-barrel) and 235hp (4-barrel) engines. Aside from that rather esoteric issue this is an attractive, usable, interesting car at a realistic price.
Lot # K99.1 1953 Jaguar XK 120 Fixed Head Coupe; S/N 680001; Pearl White/Tan leather; Cosmetic restoration, 3+ condition; Hammered Sold at $58,000 plus commission of 8.00%; Final Price $62,640. With Reserve – 3442/160hp, 4-speed, dual wing mirrors, chrome wire wheels, Firestone wide whitewalls, locking filler cap. – Good paint with a touch up and crack at the bottom of the driver door. Imperfect panel fit, again on the driver’s side door. Very lightly worn interior. Clean engine bay. A good but not exceptional cosmetic restoration. – A decent car but seriously let down by the decision to fluff it up with the pearlescent paint job, something no XK 120 ever had. The Kissimmee bidders seem to have been put off as well with the result that this price is a serious discount from current XK 120 values. Even taking the cost of a competent repaint in the original (or a correct period) color into account this XK 120 still qualifies as a bargain.
Lot # K252 1969 Ford Torino Talladega 2-Dr. Hardtop; S/N 9A46Q206381; Dark Red, , Black hood/Black vinyl with cloth inserts; Visually maintained, largely original, 3- condition; Hammered Sold at $33,000 plus commission of 8.00%; Final Price $35,640. With Reserve – 428/335hp, automatic, steel wheels with hub caps, Goodyear Eagle ST tires, dual mirrors, Philco push button radio. – Tired 20 year old repaint. Scratched up hood. Decent chrome. Very good interior. Fairly clean engine bay. Odometer shows 69,144 believable miles. Documented with the original build sheet and 1978 odometer statement, claimed to have the original mufflers. The Torino Talladega was an aerodynamic body package sold to the public to homologate it for NASCAR. 750 examples of this one year only model were made. It is therefore quite rare, making this an ideal prospect for a nut-and-bolt restoration. – Given the thorough and accurate restoration it deserves this Torino Talladega could be a $65,000 car, something achievable from its sound, complete, original condition at this price.

With Reserve – Automatic, body color hub caps, Michelin narrow whitewalls, power steering, power brakes, VDO gauges, dash clock, later cassette stereo, two tops.. – Very good paint with a small chip on the nose and a big one on the hard top. Very good, lightly worn interior. New exhaust. An older restored car that’s been kept well and enjoyed. – Gullwings and 190SLs are dragging later SLs along behind them into fairly elevated price territory. This one, however, was left behind, bringing a price more appropriate to 2012 than 2015.
Lot # L145 1959 Ford Thunderbird Convertible; S/N H9YJ107257; Light Yellow/Black vinyl piped in White; Black cloth top; Older restoration, 3+ condition; Hammered Sold at $23,000 plus commission of 8.00%; Final Price $24,840. With Reserve – 352/300hp, automatic, black steel wheels with hub caps, BF Goodrich Silvertown whitewalls, power top, power windows, factory air conditioning, push button radio. – Very good paint overall with a big touch up near the right taillight. Very good chrome. Good, but worn seats. Very good top. Tidy engine bay and undercarriage. A very well kept car with few faults. – Sold at RM’s auction of the Jerry Capizzi collection in 2006 for $41,250, this price is a drastic fall from grace. Even at $30,000 it would not have been expensive and at this price it is a very good value.

Lot # G122.1 1961 Morris Minor 2-Dr. Sedan; S/N MA2S3L859579; White/Gray velour piped in Red; 3- condition; Hammered Sold at $8,000 plus commission of 8.00%; Final Price $8,640. With Reserve – Single SU carb, body color steel wheels with hub caps, General Altimax RT tires, dual wing mirrors, banjo steering wheel. – Average quality respray. Dull, pitted chrome. Clean engine bay, but the valve cover and block have been crudely sprayed an incorrect bright green. Crack in the steering wheel, but otherwise strong interior. Superficially redone, but a cute driver. – Rerun as K082, no-sale at $9,000. The buyer early in the week thought this was a flipper for a profit but was disappointed. Cute car, bought modestly enough, but it’s also a modest car.

With Reserve – 400, automatic, Michelin marrow whitewalls, sunroof, power windows, woodgrain dash, Cartier dash clock, factory push button radio. – Believed to be 450 actual miles and appears to have barely been used, but not abandoned. Very good paint with one long scratch on the left front fender and some chips around the filler cap. Strong roof vinyl. Very clean underneath. Excellent interior. – Maybe the best value per pound in Kissimmee, a huge, impressive, imposing automobile luxuriously equipped and appointed. The price it brought has a large component for originality, on the order of 100% of market.

With Reserve – 400, automatic, turbine wheels, Grand Am narrow whitewalls, sunroof, factory umbrella, dual mirrors, spare tire hump, wood grain dash, factory AM/FM stereo. – Very good paint and chrome with a few light scratches. Very good roof vinyl. Sunroof molding is coming loose on one spot. Excellent interior. One owner, super low mileage showing 27,618 entirely believable miles. Almost like new, but not quite. – A bonus for miles and originality on the order of 50%, but that is not a lot in dollars.

Decent, but rather dull chrome. Strong roof vinyl. Lightly worn seats but otherwise excellent interior. Well equipped car believed to have 48,784 miles, in the same family for over 40 years and looks the part. Documented with build sheet and bill of sale. – Bought right for both the buyer and the seller. For the seller this is a deserved reward for careful preservation.

Very good paint and chrome with a few scratches on the front bumper. Very lightly worn interior. Great low miles example of this large, lavish automobile showing 11,819 miles on its odometer. – Luxury then, and still luxury now, the new owner of this Mark IV gets serious props for style at a modest but appropriate price.

With Reserve – 4-speed, steel wheels with hub caps, black vinyl sunroof. – Tired repaint with cracks and bubbles throughout and many chips around the door frames. Presentable chrome. Dinged up wheels. Good newer black vinyl top. Very good interior. Tidy underneath. A superficially done, 20 foot car. Not a beauty by any stretch of the imagination, but it is a Citroen 3CV, the Argentinean-built version of the 2CV. That considered, it’s been treated well. – Perfect for hauling chickens to market, and not so well presented that it would do the car any disservice. Expensive, but no harm, no fowl [sic] and easily amenable to be upgraded with minimal effort or expense.

With Reserve – Turbocharged 231/245hp V-6, automatic, Goodyear Eagle GT tires, power windows, power locks, power driver’s seat, glass T-tops, tilt steering column, tinted windows, AM/FM stereo. – Strong paint. Lightly faded and with a few light scratches behind the right headlight. Lightly scratched window glass. Dull exterior plastic. Excellent interior. Odometer shows 7,330 miles but it looks like a car with more than that, but not a rolled over odometer. – The uncertainty surrounding this GN’s mileage is a concern, but its condition is not and warrants the price it brought.

With Reserve – Bosch fuel injection, 5-speed, alloy wheels, Michelin Defender tires, tan vinyl top boot, factory cassette stereo. – Presentable paint with plenty of nicks in the nose and a couple of tiny cracks on the trunk lid. Very good top. Heavily worn seats but otherwise strong interior. Used but tidy engine bay. Imperfect but still pretty and usable late Alfa Spider. For someone who wants a neat ’90s drop top sports car on a budget but wants a little more flavor than an NA Miata, this is a good choice. – This is just a car, if that can be applied to any Alfa Romeo, and it brought reasonable money for just an Alfa Spider in mediocre but sound condition. It’s hard to have more fun for a lot more money.

Decent chrome and brightwork. Rusty exterior screws. Very good, lightly worn interior. Rare sunroof Beetle with a well kept older restoration. Comes with lots of photos and receipts. Not a concours car, but pretty gorgeous for a Beetle. – A desirable combination of Beetle-ness and a folding sunroof, but not particularly well restored nor maintained, the seller should be glad to get this much for it.

With Reserve – 255/125hp, Merc-O-Matic automatic, white steel wheels with hub caps, whitewalls, dual exhaust, bench seat, robe rail, pushbutton radio, dash clock. – Dull, possibly original paint with bubbles, cracks, scratches and chips throughout. Decent bumper chrome but dull, pitted brightwork and cracking signal lenses. Scruffy engine bay and undercarriage. Cracked driver’s side window, almost broken. Worn controls and steering wheel, but otherwise good interior. A worn but complete car with 79,310 actual miles. Mechanical freshening would give someone a driver with that survivor car look, or a relatively straightforward restoration could be in order. – Would the highest and best use of this Mercury being the basis for a custom car? Probably.
Lot # G218 1974 MG B Convertible; S/N GHN5UE367439G; Red/Black vinyl with Red inserts; Black vinyl top; Visually maintained, largely original, 3 condition; Hammered Sold at $5,000 plus commission of 10.00%; Final Price $5,500. With Reserve – Dual SU carbs, styled wheels with trim rings, Firestone Affinity tires, luggage rack, dual mirrors, aftermarket stereo, woodrim steering wheel, rubber bumpers. – Presentable paint with some dings on the trunk. Tired plastic bumpers with poor fit. Brand new top and seat upholstery, but the rest of the interior is lightly worn. New tires. Used but tidy engine bay. Decent plastic bumper MG that someone has kept up with, and one that you could enjoy while wasting time or money improving it. – The new owner is going to have a good time with this MG B, without concern for stone chips. It’s hard to think of how better to spend $5,500, especially when it could have brought 50% more without being expensive.

With Reserve – 327 (not original), automatic, steel wheels with hub caps, Delco FM radio, new Vintage air conditioning. – Good recent paint with a big drip near the left headlight. Very good top. New carpets, seat covers and door panels. New headlight and wiper motors. New brakes. Used engine bay. Good cosmetic restoration with fairly basic equipment that would make a pretty and fun cruiser. – Rerun of L147, no-sale at $40,000. This is much more realistic price, having no-saled twice at Kansas City in December at $40,000 and $37,000. The value is clear from the history.
Lot # W139 1985 Pontiac Fiero GT Coupe; S/N 1G2PG3798FP274776; Red, , Silver/Gray cloth; Visually maintained, largely original, 2+ condition; Hammered Sold at $17,000 plus commission of 8.00%; Final Price $18,360. With Reserve – Alloy wheels, Goodyear Eagle GT tires, rear spoiler, dual exhaust, power windows, factory stereo. – Two owners, 1,500 miles, window sticker never taken off. Very good original paint. Front bumper fit is slightly off. Excellent interior. Tidy underneath. For someone who has fond memories of a Fiero back in the 1980s, this almost new example is ideal. – One of a number of GM good ideas that never got enough support or development. This price is $10,000 for the car and $7,000 for the originality and low miles, a keeper, not a driver.

With Reserve – 260/164hp, automatic, black steel wheels with wire wheel covers, Milestar narrow whitewalls, power steering, power top, bucket seats, console, factory pushbutton radio. – Good paint, chrome and top. Very good interior. Used but tidy engine bay. A straightforward older restoration that’s been enjoyed but is still tidy inside and out. – Crossed the block here a year ago reported bid to $23,000, then at Auctions America’s Ft. Lauderdale auction two months later where it was bid to $26,000. Sold today at the same price offered 10 months ago, a sound buy in a sound car.
Lot # W167 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Coupe; S/N 2W87Z9L172224; Mayan Red, , Orange screaming eagle/Oyster vinyl; Visually maintained, largely original, 3+ condition; Hammered Sold at $25,000 plus commission of 8.00%; Final Price $27,000. With Reserve – 400/220hp, 4-speed, BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires, Saf-T-Track, four wheel disc brakes, air conditioning, Hurst shifter, Delco cassette stereo. – WS6 performance package that included disc brakes. Well documented from new. Very good paint overall with a few cracks on the rear spoiler. Fit on the chin spoiler is a bit off. Slightly dull exterior plastic. Slightly discolored vinyl on the inside in a few spots, which is pretty much inevitable with a white interior. Screaming chicken Trans Ams are getting collectible. This is a good place to start. It’s a very pretty car in attractive colors and presents like a car with about a quarter of the 78,000 miles showing on the odometer. – This car crossed the Kissimmee block twice last year, bid to $22,000 on Wednesday and $20,000 on Sunday. Waiting a year proved to be good timing as it coincided with the increase in popularity of the Firebird and the highest bid it’d received in a year. It was wisely accepted, too.
Lot # W210 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air 2-Dr. Sedan; S/N VC55A030412; Skyline Blue, , India Ivory/Blue vinyl with Blue cloth inserts; Recent restoration, 2- condition; Hammered Sold at $32,500 plus commission of 8.00%; Final Price $35,100. With Reserve – 265/170hp, automatic, body color steel wheels with full wheel covers, BF Goodrich Silvertown whitewalls, oil pressure and volt gauges, dash clock, later cassette stereo. – Very good paint with some flaws around brightwork and trim. Very good chrome and interior. Very clean engine bay. Represented as having 76,950 actual miles. A relatively recent full restoration that’s been used, but lightly so. – While this is a perfectly ordinary ’55 Chevy the appeal of the year is reflected in the price it brought. Even though it is probably less than was spent on the restoration, it’s a lot to pay for a Fifties 2-door sedan, but appropriate for a ’55 Chevy Bel Air.

With Reserve – Dual Weber carbs, aluminum intake manifold, headers, Ansa exhaust, 4-speed, Champion tires, dual mirrors, roll bar, black vinyl top boot, power brakes, leather-wrapped steering wheel, locking glove box. – Radio removed, but antenna is still there. Good paint and chrome. Scratched window glass. Decent, lightly worn interior. Beat up taillight lenses. Tastefully modified. Weber conversions are common on the TR6. Nothing special cosmetically, but a cool, quick driver or occasional autocross/track toy. – Sold at Fall Auburn last September for $8,250, a winning turnaround for the seller; not so much for the buyer.
Lot # T144 1989 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z Convertible; S/N 1G1FP31FXKL178714; Red/Red vinyl with Red cloth inserts; Black cloth top; Unrestored original, 2 condition; Hammered Sold at $20,500 plus commission of 8.00%; Final Price $22,140. With Reserve – LB9 305/195hp, automatic, IROC alloy wheels, Firestone Firehawk tires, power steering, power windows, leather-wrapped steering wheel, air conditioning, AM/FM stereo. – Believed to be 9,375 actual miles and looks like it. Strong paint overall. Minor dings in the hood. Excellent top. Very lightly worn interior. Must be one of the best preserved IROCs around, and a convertible no less. – This is a stylish and unusual little buggy, a real novelty with only 3,940 built. Considering the low miles and equipment it is reasonably priced and comes with serious bragging rights.

Rarely is an IROC-Z anywhere near this good. – A pretty remarkable find and a realistic price with an appropriate premium over less original, more miles counterparts.

Very pretty, well equipped and genuine Boss 302. – Not restored to show-quality condition but extremely well and thoroughly done cosmetically and in near showroom condition, the new owner got an attractive car, desirably equipped for less than comparable Boss 302s have brought, a good value.

Very good chrome and interior. Kind of tired top. Remarkably equipped and an attractive older restoration. Plymouth sold 375,000 cars in 1948, but only 5,000 were these Deluxe Convertibles. – Sold at Mecum’s Chicago auction in October for $30,240 and turned around here for a meaningful profit that should be gratifying to the seller and to all the owners of early post-WWII Plymouths everywhere, a magnanimous result.

Very good interior but with some noticeable wear in the driver’s seat. Clean, not overly detailed engine bay. Gorgeous, not overdone body-off restored MGA. Maybe not a concours car, but pretty enough to be shown on a local level and of course enjoyed when the sun’s out. – Sold here two years ago for $40,280 and not deteriorated in any meaningful respect. The new owner got a highly presentable MG A at a $6,000 discount.

Cracking turn signal lens. Imperfect panel fit. Very good interior. Represented as having 74,500 actual km. A cute, clean driver. – Rerun as F032.1, no-sale at $32,500. This is a British-market Isetta, the single rear wheel letting it be registered (and more importantly taxed) as a motorcycle. It was sold at Bonhams Quail Lodge auction in 2010 for $14,040 and the difference is entirely a function of microcars’ popularity which has caused Isettas to lurch upward in value

With Reserve – 454/230hp, automatic, American Racing wheels, Mastercraft Avenger G/T tires, tinted windows, AutoMeter tach, Sunpro oil pressure, volt and water temp gauges, power windows, air conditioning, Pioneer CD Stereo. – Good paint with some scratches on the hood and some chips around the door edges. Clean engine bay. Very good interior. 5,000 miles on a rebuilt engine. Very well kept and maintained truck. The 1990-93 Chevrolet 454 SS is less well known than the wilder turbocharged GMC Syclone, but still had straight line performance comparable with some of the performance cars of its day thanks to the formula of small truck plus huge engine. – The engine rebuild cost at least $4,000 (as I know to my cost). The ’90 454 SS trucks don’t have transmission coolers and if driven more than about half a tank of gas (which isn’t very far) overheat, expand and destroy the crankshaft thrust bearings. Other than that and the tacky bawdy house velour upholstery they are a blast to drive.

Slightly faded overall. Dull exterior plastic. Very good original interior. A lightly used, all original car with under 46,000 miles and still looking quite good. – Generally speaking 928s have not led easy lives despite their luxury and impressive performance. They are a car that can be bought by people with limited resources but boundless ambition, then slip into deferred maintenance mode. This one doesn’t seem to have suffered that fate and has the indicia of a car that has been maintained and cared for consistently, making it a sound buy at this price.

Decent chrome. Slightly tired top. Very good interior. Represented as ‘believed to’ have 29,000 actual miles. In Mustang Monthly in 1999 and on the cover of a Mustang Buyers Guide. An older restoration that’s a little past its prime but still more than good enough to be driven proudly. – Bought for a representative price, this is an ideal way to begin car collecting, especially with the 289 V-8. If it is kept in comparable condition there is little risk of losing any significant money, parts are readily available as is an active owners’ club and it’s fun to drive in all seasons.

Done to decent driver standards, this Traveller brought decent driver money that both the buyer and the seller should be satisfied with.

Overspray on weather stripping. Drips and a large chip on the hood. Surface rust on door hinges. Chips around the top frame. Dull, pitted chrome. Very good original interior. Used but not abused vintage truck from the last year for the Commando. – Commandos like this are exceptionally utilitarian making this example’s survival in such good condition, with known miles and largely original highly unusual. Bought for appreciably less than a comparable FJ40, not that it’s hard to be less than an FJ40 these days.

Excellent paint, chrome and interior. Top shows some wear, including scratches on the plastic rear window. Gorgeous, fresh, showable car (with the top down.) – A gorgeous car, but not what it was when restored and showing more deterioration than should be expected from a year old restoration. The Kissimmee bidders frugally discounted its value from pristine to slightly used, taking $40,000 off what it might have brought a year ago.

Excellent interior. Lightly scratched window glass. Represented as matching numbers. Fresh, great looking car that anybody would be proud of. – Offered at Mecum Indy in 2009 with a high bid of $41,000, sold at B-J Scottsdale in 2010 for $55,000. Unfortunately we don’t know if it’s better than it was when it crossed the block before, but it can’t be worse and brought a healthy price here for its equipment, Hugger Orange paint and excellent condition.

Available in four colors (white, yellow, orange and blue), the Eliminator was introduced in 1969 to boost reception of the new model year Cougar. Marti Report documented. Very well restored, and much more rare than a Mustang. – This is an epic price, even for such a well restored and well equipped example. Rare it may be, but all the emphasis is on Mustangs.

Lot # F162 1941 Crosley C21 Roadster Pickup; S/N C21042; Blue/Tan vinyl; Tan cloth top; Cosmetic restoration, 3 condition; Hammered Sold at $13,000 plus commission of 8.00%; Final Price $14,040. With Reserve – White steel wheels with hub caps, Road Star tires, amber fog lights, headlight and fog light eyebrows, chrome bumpers, rear-mounted spare wheel with tan vinyl cover. – Average quality respray. Scratches behind the headlights. Good interior and top. As you could say of a lot of Crosleys, it’s not so much an automobile as it is a toy, and this one was restored (and presented) accordingly. – But, where will another one be found? Drive this to the farmers’ market with some pies or zucchini in the bed and it will be the most popular booth in the field (and it will fit in pretty much any booth space.) While the result here is reasonable for this Crosley’s condition, whimsy could just as easily have brought this Crosley a Thirty Large price.

Very good paint, chrome and interior. Tidy engine bay. NCRS Top Flight in 2011 scoring 98.5 points. Still as fresh and pretty as anyone could want it to be. – The first year for 4-wheel disc brakes and a 396 engine option that matches, at least to the Chevrolet marketing department, the output of later 427s make ’65 an important year for Corvette. Often overlooked by collectors, the Kissimmee bidders didn’t overlook this one and brought it a superior price fully deserved by its specifications and condition.

Scruff on the front bumper but otherwise excellent repaint. Very good, lightly worn interior. Very low miles. First year for the Diablo in the US market. More livable than a Countach, but still plenty wild and crazy in true Lamborghini fashion. – Based on the 12,059 showing on the odometer and reported 7,478 miles from new this is a grey market car with no evidence of Federalization.

Excellent paint and interior. Imperfect hood tach fit. Very good restoration, and one of only 627 Ram Air IV hardtops built in 1970 with a 4-speed. A top choice for GTO folks. – One of the most desirable of all GTOs, and beautifully restored and presented, the Ram Air IV GTO suffers against some of its competitors like Chevy’s LS5 and LS6 454s and that is reflected in this appropriate value.

With Reserve – 396/375hp, 4-speed, body color steel wheels with hub caps, Firestone red line tires, dual mirrors, woodrim steering wheel, dash clock, factory radio, 3.54 Positraction, power steering, power brakes, bucket seats, steering column mounted tach. – Very good paint, chrome and interior. 2012 body-off restoration with nothing to nag about and a 375-horsepower L78 under the hood. – The Kissimmee bidders didn’t get excited about this Chevelle, which resulted in a very good car bringing a modest price.
Lot # S17.1 1956 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup; S/N VC56B053563; White, , Brown fenders/Black vinyl; Incomplete restoration, 4+ condition; Not sold at Hammer bid of $15,000. – Steel wheels with hub caps, Vanderbilt all season narrow whitewalls, stepside, bed-mounted spare wheel, wood stake bed. – Awful, rushed paint job with orange peel, drips and overspray. Decent chrome. Loose fitting brightwork. Missing interior trim bits. Good upholstery. A rushed, incomplete job but a sound truck underneath, even if it is a bit of an eyesore. Chassis number is from a ’56 210 passenger car, not a pickup. Proceeds to Curing Kids Cancer. – Rerun as U122 and sold for $8,000. Mecum qualified this truck with a VIN announcement making it nearly impossible to sell. If the new owner can resolve the issues it could be a decent truck when properly finished. Until then it is an $8,000 donation to charity.

With Reserve – 3.5/375hp, 6-speed, Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, power windows, power seat, air conditioning, dash clock. – Some rock chips on the nose and sizable scrapes on the bottom lip. Touch up on right mirror. Tired top. Long scratch behind the driver’s door. Small scrape on the right front wheel. Lightly worn seats. Good for somebody who wants a 355 to drive regularly and one in an interesting color, i.e., not red. Hasn’t led the pampered life of many Ferraris, but it is still usable and presentable. – There are not quite a thousand more miles on the odometer since it sold here two years ago for $49,820. The seller netted a little under $40,000 after commission, consignment fee and transportation, or about $10/mile enjoyed over the past two years.

A driver quality cosmetic restoration. – By historical standards this is a generous price for a 911T Targa, but the way 911 prices are going it may actually be modest in today’s market. It will most definitely be modest by the summer. Better to buy early and get on the escalator.

Good chrome. Sound, lightly worn interior. An enthusiast restoration done to superficial standards. – Reported sold at Mecum’s Houston auction in 2012 for $32,860, then offered at the Austin auction a month ago with a reported high bid of $38,000. The consignor prudently decided to take the money here even though it was much less than a more reasonable decision in Austin might have brought.
Lot # S72.1 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe; S/N 30837S103682; Black/Black vinyl; Older restoration, 2 condition; Hammered Sold at $147,500 plus commission of 8.00%; Final Price $159,300. With Reserve – 327/340hp, 4-speed, knock-off wheels, BF Goodrich Silvertown narrow whitewalls, 3.70 rear end, deluxe heater. – Radio delete. Body-off restored in 2012, represented as original matching numbers drivetrain. Excellent paint and interior. Excellent chrome in front but tired on the rear bumpers. Well restored and well equipped Split Window Coupe. One of those ‘must haves’ for any good Corvette collection. – Sold by Mecum in Indianapolis fresh from restoration in 2012 for $185,500. In not quite as good condition three years later and showing 2,007 more miles on the odometer, it took a major hit in value for the passage of time and the effect of the miles. It is still one of the best black paint jobs in history, though, and deserves the premium price it brought.

The low 8,303 miles on the odometer make you wonder just how long it has sat, but on the surface of it, this is an almost new, all original, late production Testarossa. – Offered at Mecum’s Austin sale last month with a reported high bid of $90,000. An unusual Testarossa in white and in excellent condition. The lack of information on recent service means almost certainly that the engine will have to come out for new timing belts sooner rather than later and makes this price, even taking miles and originality into account, moderately expensive.

Made even more noteworthy by the hard top, a $1,995 option when new. Someone took the idea of a collector’s item very seriously, keeping it to only 5 miles from new. From the Judski collection, along with several other C4 Corvettes. – Think how hard it is to keep any car to only five miles; it has to be rolled backward almost as much as it is rolled forward and probably increased its mileage by 20% just getting to the auction block. Notable only for its low miles and originality, this result has a generous premium for those considerations.

Practically a new car, and one of just 53 GS convertibles with the black and red interior. Total GS production was 1,000. – Fully valued for its originality, low miles and exceptional condition.

Mostly excellent body-off restoration with only minimal cosmetic things to nag about. – Sold by RM from the Wayne Davis collection in 2008 for $104,500, offered by Mecum at Anaheim two years ago with a high bid reported of $100,000 and sold here for a price fully warranted by its condition and specifications.

Dull older paint with a crack near the hood scoop. Excellent interior with ubiquitous Shelby signature on the glove box. Used but tidy engine bay. An older restoration holding up pretty well. – Reportedly bid to $140,000 here a year ago, then to $100,000 at Houston last April, the consignor decided to take the money here in Kissimmee for this unusual Hertz car in Sapphire Blue, a result that both the buyer and the seller should be satisfied with.

With Reserve – 327/300hp, Powerglide 2-speed automatic, disc brakes, knock-off wheels, narrow whitewalls, crush pile carpets, split window removed, push button radio. – At first glance, this looks like a tired ’65 Corvette with an old pink paint job that someone bought for his wife or girlfriend a long time ago. That’s partly true, but the whole story is a lot more interesting in that the woman in question was Harley Earl’s wife, Sue. Painted to match the Earl’s house in Palm Beach, the car is actually a 1963 Coupe that was continually upgraded from 1963 to 1965. It then passed through a couple of owners and was stored for almost 40 years, leading to its current barn find condition with one old repaint in the original color. Everything is there, however, and whether you can deal with the pink or not, it is a piece of Corvette history. – One of the headline cars here a year ago but unsold at a reported high bid of $340,000, its value in this transaction is much more reasonable for a Corvette with a unique factory history but seriously deteriorated condition.

With Reserve – 283/270hp, two Carter 4 barrel carbs, 3-speed, body color steel wheels with spinner hub caps, radio and heater delete, Firestone wide whitewalls, matching hard top. – Bloomington Gold, NCRS Duntov award in 2006. CA car until 2008. Restored by an NCRS judge. Very good paint and chrome. A slightly older restoration, but a high quality and correct one. – Quite aside from the condition, the equipment on this Corvette set it apart as a Corvette that’s had more than a few passes down the strip or away from a stoplight. Its bona fides are well established, even if a little aged and it brought a solid price for what it is.

Body-off restored 15 years ago, but it looks a lot newer than that. Very good paint, chrome and interior. 2004 Gold Spinner, Eyes on Design invitation in 2011, class winner at Ault Park in 2012. Even by Yenko standards, these are incredibly fast and incredibly rare cars, and this one is in stellar condition. – Big money for a small car, much more rare than Yenko Chevelles, thoroughly documented and impressively honored through years of meticulous preservation. It is expensive, and it deserves to be.

GM’s 4-wheel disc brake display car. Bloomington Gold Special Collection. Represented as the first Corvette with a teakwood steering wheel and power antenna. Good paint with a few light scratches and dings. Strong, lightly worn upholstery. Clean original engine bay. Early, notable, documented car. – Sold at Mecum’s Indy sale in 2011 for just $69,960, a significant piece of Corvette history painted ’64 Cadillac Satin Silver for factory display purposes through late 1964. The teakwood wheel/power antenna distinction isn’t nearly as important as being S/N 1 and the factory display history. The seller should be satisfied with the price it brought, but the new owner even more satisfied with the car even at this price.

Not so long ago this was Speedster money but the Cab is more comfortable. Enjoy the ride.

Strong paint that has lost some luster. Big drip on the spare wheel cover. Slightly worn and discolored upholstery. Tidy engine bay. Imperfect door fit. A car that looks like it was restored 20 years ago, which it was. 19,519 miles on the odometer are represented as the mileage since restoration. Fairly tired, but with no huge issues or eyesores. – 1953 Skylarks, like their counterparts among the ’53 Motorama cars, are highly valued and sought after. Most have better than new restorations, so this aged and rather tired example brought a deserved lower price. On the other hand unlike concours restored Skylarks it can actually be driven – as it has been – and that is a desirable and rare attribute.

An older concours restoration that is still quite pretty. – Sold here in 2011 for $153,700 fresh from restoration with 413 fewer miles showing on the odometer than it has today. It was expensive in 2011, and it still is today, but not by much.

Rare as hell, fast as hell and cool as hell. – Fabulous performance, ferocious looks, justifiably famous as one of the legendary cars of the 90’s. If the Kissimmee bidders say this is what this car is worth, with its unique history and low miles, then that should be definitive.

Engine bay looks like it’s barely been operated. Looks lightly used, not brand new. 8,537 miles is very low for a ten year old car, but not so for a Ford GT. There isn’t anything wrong with this car, but most GTs were pampered and lightly driven from new. This one’s condition is therefore pretty typical. – The price it brought is something of a setback for Ford GTs which have been bringing prices around, and above, $300,000 for the last year or so. Maybe supply has finally caught up with demand?

Clearly a very pampered automobile. The Alpina version of the Z8 was actually a softer, more luxurious grand touring version of the slightly more hardcore standard car. Only 555 were built and this one is represented as a 2-owner, 20,000 mile original car. – The Z8 has finally found its niche, with prices building regularly to where this result is representative, especially for the Alpina variant.

Very good chrome and lightly worn interior. A recent partial restoration on a car believed to have just 29,864 actual miles. Lots of mechanical work. Interior done in 2006. A gorgeous car, certainly collectible with hard top and 4.2 engine but neither a top notch concours car nor a time capsule original. – This is a healthy price for a pretty but still driver quality XKE, even the late 4.2. XKE prices show no letup in their rate of growth.

With Reserve – OZ Racing wheels, Pirelli P Zero tires, rear wing, power windows, fire extinguisher, Pioneer CD stereo. – US spec with 6,548 miles from new in Florida and freshly serviced. 25th Anniversary edition with bigger intake ducts, different engine cover and larger rear bumper. This was the most refined version of the Countach, but it also had the fussiest styling. Very good original paint with a few small cracks on and around the left rear intake duct and a couple of small dings on the nose. Barely used interior, and a barely used car, for that matter. Engine serviced in 2014. Essentially a new example of a very late Countach. – This price has a moderate premium for originality and low miles but is, taking it all into account, expensive (at least relative to other Silver Anniversary Countaches.)

Period race history in the Midwest, California and England. Believed to be 2,863 actual miles. Radio, heater and sound deadening delete per W023 specs. Very good paint and chrome. Almost spotless engine bay. Excellent interior. A high quality restoration of a cool piece of Mopar and drag racing history. – Figuring five miles per drag strip run, counting cool down and back to the pits and starting line, the 2,863 miles tell a story of about 572 runs, and it is amazing it survived to be restored to pristine, showroom condition.

Lot # S176 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe; S/N 194376S110189; Laguna Blue/Bright Blue vinyl; Recent restoration, 2- condition; Hammered Sold at $120,000 plus commission of 8.00%; Final Price $129,600. With Reserve – 427/450hp, 4.11 Positraction, 4-speed, F41 suspension, power steering, power brakes, Kelsey Hayes alloy wheels, Goodyear gold line tires, AM/FM radio. – Very good paint and chrome. Very lightly worn interior. Older wheels and tires. Tidy engine bay, but the valve covers have been given a very quick and crude spray paint in orange. Restoration finished in 2010. Top Flight awards in 2011. Aside from the unsightly valve cover paint, it is a very pretty and solid car with desirable equipment. – The ’66 Corvette’s 396/450hp Big Block demonstrates the flexible relationship between fact and fiction in horsepower ratings. Later in ’66 published horsepower was reduced to 425hp with no changes to the engine at all, probably not wanting to make the ’67 427 Big Block’s Tri-Power rating of 435hp look bad. So here, in 1966, a Corvette owner can get LS6 power (on paper at least) from a 396, and for a lot less money of which this result for a meticulously restored example is indicative.
Lot # S185.1 1958 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible; S/N K558H2013; Red, , White accent/Black, Silver and Red vinyl; Black top; Recent restoration, 2 condition; Hammered Sold at $92,000 plus commission of 8.00%; Final Price $99,360. With Reserve – 370/300hp, Tri-Power, automatic, body color steel wheels with hub caps, whitewalls, power steering, power brakes, power windows, power antenna, AM radio, rear fender skirts. – Body-off restored. Very good paint. Good chrome. Excellent interior. Detailed engine bay. The Bonneville set Pontiac on a path to building a performance image for itself, and this is a stellar example. – Offered at Mecum Dallas last September, then Chicago in October with high bids of $97,000 and $95,000. Finally sold here at a very realistic price that only partially recognized the Bonneville’s style, equipment and Tri-Power V-8. It could have sold for a little bit more without being expensive.

Everything you’d want in a ’58 Corvette. – Good colors, good engine, good restoration, very good price which reflects the confluence of all three of those things. This transaction is at full retail.

With Reserve – 265/195hp, automatic, red steel wheels with hub caps, BF Goodrich Silvertown whitewalls, WonderBar radio. – The second Corvette built in 1955 and the first Corvette fitted with a V-8 engine, certainly a very significant distinction. NCRS Top Flight award, Bloomington Gold certified and Special Collection. Decent paint. Long crack above the grille. Very good chrome and interior. Slightly older restoration, but still a solid car and of course historically significant. – Sold at Barrett-Jackson in 2002 fresh from restoration for $129,600, then here in 2011 for $180,200. Now up another third but still moderately valued for its unique situation in Corvette history.
Lot # S199.1 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 2-Dr. Hardtop; S/N 124379N707726; Fathom Green, , Black vinyl roof, White side stripes/Black vinyl; Recent restoration, 2+ condition; Hammered Sold at $80,000 plus commission of 8.00%; Final Price $86,400. With Reserve – 396/375hp with L89 aluminum heads, 4.10 Positraction, 4-speed, body color steel wheels with hub caps, Goodyear Polyglas tires, door edge guards, tinted windows, AM pushbutton radio, rear seat speaker. – Very good paint, chrome and roof vinyl. Beautiful, detailed engine bay. Very good interior. A fresh looking, gorgeous car and an L89 with a 4-speed to boot, but there is no assurance that the L89 heads actually came with the Camaro from Norwood. – The Kissimmee bidders must have made up their minds that this is a faux L89, not an original L89 of which only 311 were built and the price reflects their decision. It’s still a great performance car, done to better than showroom condition.

With Reserve – Chromed steel wheels with hub caps, Pirelli P6000 tires, single wing mirror, headrest seats. – Excellent paint. Very tidy engine bay. Very good interior. New top. Nothing bad to say about it. Represented as the original numbers matching engine – Cleaned up since it was offered here a year ago to get the overspray and body shop detritus out of the wheel wells. It has been a long journey for this Porsche, starting at RM Monterey in 2013 (bid to $145,000), then here in 2014 (bid to $150,000), then Mecum Monterey last August (bid to $130,000.) The history validates that this was what it was worth all along and all the rides and consignment fees were for naught except to re-set the consignors’ expectations.

A very well restored car, not super fresh, but the quality is there and there are no major issues. – Sold at Barrett-Jackson’s Palm Beach auction in 2013 for $121,000, offered here last year with a reported high bid of $130,000, not sold for an appropriate price.

Tired, discolored convertible top. Very tidy engine bay. Clean undercarriage. Represented as the original engine. Slightly older but a very pretty restored car. – A promising little Tiger that offers excellent performance at a price still accessible to collectors of moderate means, unlike Shelby Mustangs and Cobras.

With Reserve – Alloy wheels, Dunlop Dureza tires, leather shift knob, power windows, air conditioning, factory cassette stereo. – Represented as 12,700 miles from new. Some rock chips on the nose and light scrapes on the low plastic front lip, but otherwise excellent. Good original interior. NSXs never really got cheap, so there are a lot of strong examples out there. Even so, this is really a fantastic NSX-T, and as one of those supercars you can use day to day, it has many more miles left in it. – This NSX T brought a healthy premium, on the order of $15,000, for low miles and originality which does not seem at all out of line.
