The Mecum Monterey 2016 auction was held August 18-21 at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel in Monterey, California, resulting in more than $50 million in total sales. With 704 classic and collector cars offered at the three-day sale, this year’s total surpassed the prior year by more than $5 million.
Top sales at the Mecum Monterey 2016 auction included the a 211-mile 2014 Ferrari LaFerrari that exceeded estimates for $4,700,000, the 1966 Ford GT40 MkI that sold for the high bid of $4,400,000 and the one-owner, 2,000-mile 2003 Ferrari Enzo that brought $3 million.
The headlining Modern Speed Collection consisted of 11 low-mileage examples of modern sports and supercars, with eight of them selling for a total of $6,270,000. Three from the collection brought individual sales of $1 million or higher including a 2014 McLaren P1, a 2011 Ferrari 599 SA Aperta and a 2006 Bugatti Veyron 16.4.
