The Monterey Pre-Historics are held annually at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca the weekend prior to the Rolex Monterey Historic Automobile Races.
The Pre-Historics are generally designed to give Historic entrants, many of whom have never raced on Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, track time before the green flag drops the following weekend. Since the paddock and track is largely free of spectators, it also allows drivers to ease into the flow of the track and their race car without 30,000 fans watching their every move. And of course, veteran drivers welcome the opportunity for even more track time and their mechanics appreciate the extra time to get the car dialed in.
Typically about 60-75% of the cars that race in the Historics also attend the Pre-Historics and this year was no different. Sports Car Digest was fortunate to have Dennis Gray document this year’s racing action. Dennis will also be part of our team for the big event this weekend.

Another great photo display by SCD and its photographers.
Can’t wait until this weekend’s coverage of MH for those of us unable to attend.
Can anybody point me to the results from the 2009 Pre Historics? Thanks!
Great pics of great cars (who is the driver owner of Porsche Carrera Abarth with Orange striping ?
Porsche Abarth #49 Ransom Webster is listed as driver/owner on the result sheet.
Please note, his name is Ranson Webster, not Ransom Webster. Glad you like the car!
Dennis (Gray), thanks very much. I was wondering whether that car once belonged to Ben (Bernardus) Pon of The Netherlands. Similar car (without striping) is owned by Davud Watts, and that is Ben Pon’s ex-car. Does anyone know who raced the Ccarrera with orange stripes in the early 60s ?
