The Napier-Campbell Bluebird II that Malcolm Campbell used to set a world land speed record in 1927 will complete a trio of early LSR machines at April’s Bromyard Speed Festival in the historic English automotive town of Bromyard. It will join the fabled Beast of Turin and the legendary “Babs” in the event’s lineup.
Powered by a 700-bhp W12 Napier Lion engine, the Napier Bluebird topped 195 mph that day 90 years ago at Pendine Sands to give Campbell the record. The car’s appearance at Bromyard follows Campbell’s previous car, a Sunbeam, which highlighted at last year’s festival.
“Having three of the world’s most famous Land Speed Record cars together in Bromyard is a milestone for the Festival,” said Festival Chairman Graham Hodgson-Jones. “The spectacle of having the Beast, Babs and the Napier Bluebird on the streets of the town will surely be something no one will want to miss, and probably a first anywhere. They are the headline for the event that will feature a further 150-plus car and bike entries and an anticipated 10,000 visitors.”
