Bonhams continues its growth pattern with a new auction that will be staged 5 September 2015 on the grounds of Château de Chantilly in Chantilly, France. The new black tie evening sale will be held in association with the Chantilly Arts and Elegance Concours d’Elegance.
Philip Kantor, Bonhams European Head of Motorcars, commented, “We’re delighted to announce this brand new and exclusive motoring sale, taking place on the luxurious grounds of the Château de Chantilly. The event perfectly complements the motoring auction calendar, and will offer an additional sale for our European clientele. The concept is to offer a bespoke ‘Salon’ style auction, offering a limited number of very fine examples of collectors’ motor cars, perhaps thirty or so carefully selected lots for the ‘black tie’ evening auction.”
Hosted on the grounds of the magnificent Château de Chantilly, the Arts and Elegance event debuted in 2014, attracting a crowd of 10,000 spectators, taking in the delights of the “Concours d’Elegance” competition for modern concept cars, and a “Concours d’Etat” for classic cars from around the world. The “Art and Elegance” event also plays host to fine art exhibitions, fashion shows, live music and various lifestyle exhibits. (See 2014 Chantilly Concours – Photo Gallery)
In addition to the Concours d’Elegance, Chantilly also has a notable history with the equine community, home to Chantilly Racecourse and the Living Museum of the Horse, in addition to boasting the largest racehorse-training community in France. In 2005 the Château de Chantilly estate, including the famous Chantilly Racecourse, received a generous donation by the Aga Khan to restore the estate to the glorious location it is today.
Patrick Peter, Head of Peter Auto, said, “Bonhams is famous the world over for its auctions, in particular those featuring collectors cars, so we’re delighted that this renowned company will associate itself with our Chantilly Arts & Elégance Richard Mille event in addition to its presence at Spa Classic. The organisation of such a sale in September in Chantilly confirms the momentum generated by the event only a year after it was held for the first time.”
