Australia has decided to demote FF1600 and install Formula 4 as its national starter series. Formula 4 gives each country the choice of approved chassis and engines, each one limited to 150 bhp, but everyone runs the same kit within the national series. One-spec formulae, I hate ’em.
They are supposed to contain costs, but everyone in motor racing looks for the unfair advantage and the more tightly regulated a formula is, the more expensive it is to find a loophole and one-spec sets a minimum price. Eric Broadley had ambitions as a driver, and he built the Lola Mk 1 because he could not afford a Lotus Eleven, which would have been less hassle.
