The 2017 Palos Verdes Concours d’Elegance will feature cars from the marques Packard and Porsche to exemplify this year’s theme of “Elegance and Speed.” Attendees will have the opportunity to view dozens of vintage automobiles and, as part of this year’s reimagined and expanded event, several historic aircraft, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday, October 1, at Louis Zamperini Field, 3301 Airport Drive in Torrance, California.
In addition to its traditionally impressive display of classic, concours-caliber automobiles, this charity event will include historic aircraft in a side-by-side display on the field. In addition to the featured marques noted above, a total of 19 classes of automobiles will represent the finest craftsmanship from all over the world.
Among the concours-level automobiles expected to be on hand are a 1929 Packard Dual Cowl Phaeton, a 1933 Packard Phaeton V12 Convertible Coupe and a 1956 Porsche 356A Speedster (above). Among the participating aircraft will be a YF-23 Supercruiser, an F14A Tomcat, a Travel Air Bi-Plane, an F4F Wildcat and a P51D Mustang.
In addition to its impressive lineup of automobiles and aircraft, the event will include dancers performing in period clothing, some of the South Bay’s most popular food trucks offering an array of choices for the hungry, craft beer and wine for sale for those at least 21 years old and live music. As an added bonus, ticket holders will be able to tour the Western Museum of Flight, located at Zamperini Field, for no charge.
The Palos Verdes Concours d’Elegance is a 501(c)(3) charity event benefiting the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor and the Western Museum of Flight, an organization that honors the aerospace industry heritage of Southern California and educates the public on the history of flight.
