In the process of researching his new book on the Ferrari 156 “Sharknose,” European Editor Ed McDonough has had the opportunity to talk with 1961 World Champion Phil Hill on several different occasions. In this month’s interview, McDonough and Hill discuss not only the “Sharknose” but some of the oftentimes challenging politics of racing for Ferrari in the ’60s.
VRJ: Of course, your career has had many facets, but in focusing on your championship year, did it seem to you at the end of 1960 and the beginning of 1961 that the championship was a realistic objective?
