Porsche has been successful in many branches of motorsports, scoring tens of thousands of victories worldwide over the course of five decades of competition. From victories in the Carrera Panamericana and Targa Florio to Daytona and Le Mans, Porsche is the most successful sports car racing manufacturer in the world.
Given their recent foray in SUVs and 4-door sedans (or perhaps as a reminder to themselves), Porsche created a nicely-done video to reiterate that the company has, “Roots in Racing. Not Posing.” While they do not need to explain their past to motorsports fans, we appreciate the reminder nonetheless. The short 1:35 video includes an illustrious cast of characters, including the 550, 917/10, 936 and many variations of the 911.

if porsche has to explain their racing history to anyone, they should not be driving a porsche.
fabulous piece of history!! nicely done.
Well said Jane!
This should be required viewing for all new Porsche customers. Most of these customers cannot tell you anything about Daytona, Sebring and Le Mans…….
porsche hardly needs to explain their racing history , thats for sure but I love it when they do. Great footage, full of wonderful memories.
Hmmmm…….not a single shot of a 917K or 956/962 though…. Weird
I think a passing shot of the 944 or 968, quick shots of the 986 or cayman, and long shot of 356 would have made it complete. And the 968 was ALL PORSCHE and WONDERFUL.
If you don’t know what kind of racing background Porsche has then you’re no more than a poser,a see-and-be-seen idiot who bought the car only for the visual presence. For the rest of us, there’s a long and storied proud history of racing we can associate the car with, everything from the first 356 that was raced to the current crop of GT cars.
And good point, why nothing on the 917 or 956-62 cars?
This is a part of the essence of racing: having fun!
