Sam Posey was presented with the Spirit of Competition award at a gala dinner at the Simeone Automotive Museum in Philadelphia during the first week of December. Posey distinguished himself as a racing driver by competing in Formula One, Indycars, Can-Am, Trans-Am, Formula 5000 and endurance races at venues like Daytona, Sebring and Le Mans—winning at Sebring in 1975 in a BMW CSL he shared with Brian Redman, Hans Stuck and Allan Moffat.
Away from the racetrack he worked for 20 years as a commentator with ABC-TV for the network’s broadcasts of the Indy 500 and other events, including the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo and the 1989 Tour de France bicycle race. He has also demonstrated his talents as an author, painter and architect, with the Paddock Building at his home track of Lime Rock Park being one of his designs.
