The popular American Autumn Classic returned to England’s Prescott Speed Hill Climb (home of the Bugatti Owners Club) on October’s opening weekend. The all-American Stars and Stripes weekend celebrated the biggest, brightest and brashest cars this side of the pond, as the action-packed weekend attracted a wide variety of competition cars competing on the historic hillclimb course, as well as spectacular American vehicle displays and USA-themed entertainment. The paddock was packed with special vehicle displays showcasing a wide variety of American vehicles all vying to win the last heat of “American Car of the Year.”
Several notable vehicles included the Max Balchowsky’s 1959 Buick special Old Yeller II, a car that has been raced by many legendary drivers including Carroll Shelby, Dan Gurney, Bob Bondurant, Billy Krause, Bob Drake, Paul O’Shea and Max Balchowsky himself. It’s currently owned and raced by Ernie Nagamatsu. Also on hand, and making its debut at Prescott, was the ex-Bobby Unser Penske PC7 Indycar, accompanied by a 1939 Chevy Coupe, designed and road raced in Argentina by Juan Manuel Fangio before he became a Formula One star.
