The second annual Put-In-Bay Road Races Reunion has been scheduled for June 28-30 on Ohio’s South Bass Island. The island, home to road racing on its public roads between 1952 and 1959 (as well as in 1963), is offshore in Lake Erie, a 30-minute ferry ride north of Catawba Island, less than an hour east of Toledo.
A special effort is being made to assemble the actual cars and drivers who participated in the original races, but anyone with an interest in preserving the history of open-road sports car racing in the ’50s is welcome to attend.
Among the activities being planned are escorted tours of the original course, the establishment of permanent historical markers at select locations around the circuit, a car show, and much more.
Proceeds from the event will go to support the Put-In-Bay Road Races archives and exhibit at the Lake Erie Historical Society Museum at Put-In-Bay. For complete details please visit:
