For the fourth consecutive year, historic South Bass Island in Lake Erie will reverberate to the sounds of sports car racing as the Put-in-Bay Road Races Reunion takes place on September 20–22. As before, the event is intended as a low-key celebration of the days in the 1950s and early ’60s when sports cars raced around the island just offshore from Sandusky, Ohio.
This year’s event has embraced a Thursday-Friday-Saturday format for the commemorative contests on a temporary course at the Put-in-Bay Airport, and will again turn its focus toward reliving the glories of the past instead of creating new glory in the present—which means it doesn’t matter who wins. Other activities will include panel discussions and slide shows about racing on the island back in the day, tours of the original course layout, an “on-your-own” rally and a popular-vote car show on Saturday.
