Quail Lodge Auction Results – Bonhams

Update, 8/26/09: Bonhams reported four additional sales post-block, highlighted by the 1938 Peugeot 402 Darl’mat Legere ‘Special Sport’ Roadster that sold for $777,000.

1961 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster Sold for $804,500 versus pre-sale estimate of $550,000 - $650,000.The 2009 Bonhams & Butterfields “Quail Lodge, Exceptional Motorcars and Automobilia featuring the Sidney H. Craig Collection and property from the Reggie Jackson Collection” was held Friday, August 14th at the Quail Lodge Resort in Carmel, California.

Bonhams & Butterfields’ 12th annual auction, held in connection with The Quail, A Motorsport Gathering, featured more than 100 cars highlighted by the 1939 Auto Union D-Type V12 Grand Prix Racing Car that did not sell at a high bid of $6,000,000.

Bonhams offered 102 automobiles for sale, with 62 finding new owners, reflecting a 60.7% sales rate. The total automotive sales volume was $14,284,288, inclusive of buyer’s premiums. The average price per car sold was $230,391.

Bonhams’ 2008 Quail Lodge auction sold 44 of 77 cars (57%) for total sales of $21,004,800, assisted by the 1960 Jaguar E2A Prototype that hammered for $4,957,000 and the 1939 Talbot-Lago T150C SS Teardrop Coupe that sold for $4,847,000. The average price per car sold was $477,381.
