Mention the Duesenberg name to most classic car enthusiasts and visions of opulent and often extravagant luxury cars like the Walker-bodied Model J that we feature this month, will come to their minds. In fact, the Duesenberg name for most has become synonymous with elegance and luxury. Yet, those of us more keenly aware of racing history know that the Duesenberg brothers, Fred and August, made a name for themselves almost exclusively in racing for ten years before they even began to build road cars. And it would be another six years before they fully devoted their talents to building one of the world’s most luxurious automobiles.
