One of the stars taking the green at this year’s Greenwich Concours, June 1-2, will be a very rare Ghia-bodied 1955 Jaguar XK140MC, one of just three built. With a flowing, hand-made aluminum body by Italian carrozzeria Ghia, the sleek coupe is substantially lighter than a stock XK 140. The dashboard and instrument panel—with Smiths gauges—are also specially fabricated in aluminum. The greenhouse has slender roof pillars and greater glass area for a bright and airy interior. The rear shelf behind the car’s two seats is hinged for additional storage.
Under the hood, the MC suffix signifies the 3442-cc, twin-cam, inline six-cylinder Jaguar engine was upgraded with a C-Type cylinder head that added 20 hp, for a total of 210 hp. Its first owners were the Hollywood musical stars Marge and Gower Champion, who later sold it to fellow actor Ricardo Montalban. It is currently owned by Greenwich-collector Michael Schudroff, who will be displaying it at this June’s event.
