After years of being locked away in a European customs impound, the ex-von Neumann 1956 Ferrari 625 TRC was recently welcomed back to its Southern California stomping ground by its new owner, Petersen Automotive Museum Chairman, Bruce Meyer (pictured above).
One of two 2.5-liter 625 TRCs, Chassis # 0672 MDTR was originally bought and campaigned by West Coast importer John von Neumann. The car amassed numerous victories at places like Pomona, Santa Barbara, Salt Lake City and Sacramento, before being upgraded in late ’57 with a new 3-liter Testa Rossa motor. In the hands of Richie Ginther, John and Josie von Neumann, the car was extremely successful from 1957-1960, earning it the moniker “The Hot Rod.”
The car will go on public display at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles later this year.
