WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca officials are noting a huge rise in entries for Datsun and Nissan entries (above, Bob Heathcote photo courtesy of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca) since the announcement of Nissan as the event’s featured marque this year. August’s 45th edition of the Reunion marks the first time the event has honored a Japanese manufacturer, and early entries of Datsun and Nissan vintage racecars are showing a substantial rise — on the order of 500 percent! This year’s Reunion is a week later than usual, scheduled for August 24-26.
Nissan is designing a heritage display to showcase examples of its history, while marque-related heroes like John Morton, Steve Millen and Peter Brock have also confirmed their participation, with many more expected to follow their lead.
“Nissan is honored to be the first marque from Japan featured at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion,” said Dan Mohnke, senior vice president Sales and Marketing and Operations, Nissan Division U.S. “With more than a hundred amateur championships and numerous professional championships over the past 50 years of competition, we take pride in our rich racing heritage, as it has helped make Nissan the innovative brand it is today.”
The celebration will also feature a large contingent of Datsun and Nissan car clubs who are joining their respective car corrals. The Z Owners of Northern California is among those mobilizing their members, and others are expected to follow.
