RM Auctions has announced the consignment of one of history’s most important racing Ferraris, the 1953 340/375 MM Pinin Farina Berlinetta Competizione, chassis 0320AM, which will be offered for sale at RM’s exclusive evening auction during the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este weekend on the shores of Lake Como in Cernobbio, Italy, on May 25.
Chassis 0320AM, one of three works cars built in 1953, boasts unsurpassed provenance, with Le Mans history and drivers including World Champions Mike Hawthorn, Nino Farina, and Alberto Ascari. Piloted by Hawthorn and Umberto Maglioli, it also won the 1953 Pescara 12 Hours, and with it on the Carrera Panamericana Maglioli later established an all-time record speed for a public road stage of 138 mph for 223 miles! The car will be presented for sale in the same livery it wore during the 1953 24 Hours of Le Mans.
