The Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP) and the County of Monterey have announced that Rolex Watch USA is extending its title sponsorship of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. Rolex has been title sponsor of the internationally acclaimed event since 2010 (above, Jim Williams photo), when the event was renamed the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. This year’s event takes place August 23-26.
“Rolex has been a valued partner for many years and we appreciate their support and commitment to the sport of historic racing,” commented Gillian Campbell, senior vice president of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. “With the Rolex team’s guidance, the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion continues to be recognized as one of the most respected events of its kind in the world and a cornerstone of the Monterey Classic Car Week. And for participants, the Rolex Drivers Club provides a relaxed respite and is one of the highlights of the weekend.”
Each August, tens of thousands of motoring enthusiasts make a pilgrimage to the scenic coast of Monterey and to the iconic race facility to see the world’s finest vintage racecars in action. The event traditionally attracts nearly 1,000 entry requests ranging from the early 1900s through the early 1990s. Each application undergoes a rigorous selection process to ensure that the car is historically accurate, has race provenance and is mechanically correct to the period in which it originally ran.
Like a museum revving to life, the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion celebrates motorsport history for four full racing, and this year Nissan will be the featured marque, the first Asian auto manufacturer to be so honored. The event’s bustling paddock is open to everyone, where featured attractions include Q&A sessions with legends, special exhibition laps and a full marketplace of vendors exhibiting a wide range of automobilia and products.
The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion was recently recognized by the FIA, which presented its Founding Members’ Club Heritage Cup to SCRAMP, which manages the county-owned Laguna Seca Recreation Area. It is the first time such an honor has been awarded to an organization in the United States. For more information on the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, please visit www.MazdaRaceway.com
