A 1970 AMC Javelin SST nicknamed “Big Bad Orange” (above) will be a highlight of Russo and Steele’s Newport Beach, California, auction set for the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort on June 5-7. One of just 2,501 examples produced, the Javelin is powered by a 390 cid V8 with a four-barrel carburetor and drives through a quick-shifting four-speed manual transmission.
Also scheduled to come under the hammer in Newport Beach is a rare Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3.5 Cabriolet, one of just 1,232 examples of the landmark model produced. This fine example is equipped with air conditioning, a period radio unit, beautiful veneered wood and many other amenities—including the original owners manual and tools in a canvas tool roll—to provide a comfortable and luxurious experience. As offered, this 280SE Cabriolet carries guaranteed collectability and enduring value as one of the final limited-production, mostly hand-built Mercedes-Benz automobiles ever produced.
