The Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC) has announced that its 31st annual meeting and track event will be held at Virginia International Raceway on June 30–July 2. VIR was first opened in 1957, with the first feature race being won by none other than Carroll Shelby, who was quoted after the race as saying, “One lap at VIR is like 100 at Watkins Glen.”
Some of the many activities to be featured at SAAC-31 will include a driver school, open track sessions, two vintage races, three car shows, a swap meet, a literature & memorabilia auction, parade laps and an evening program with former Shelby staff members. All the action, except for the evening program, will be at the beautifully refurbished 1,200 acre, 2.25-mile, VIR North Course.
