RM Sotheby’s has announced the latest pair of additions to the list of Ferraris being offered at its single-marque sale September 9 in partnership with Ferrari. Held at the legendary Italian marque’s factory in Maranello, the auction celebrates Ferrari’s 70th anniversary year with automotive milestones from the company’s last seven decades. Ferrari – Leggenda e Passione will feature more than 35 of the most significant road and racing Ferraris ever built.
Among recent additions to the exclusive event is a matching numbers 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider by Scaglietti, chassis no. 1503 GT (above, photo courtesy of RM Sotheby’s). One of the most desirable examples of the ultimate open Ferrari of its era, 1503 GT is offered from nearly two decades of single ownership, having seldom been shown over this time.
Also newly added is a 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO, chassis no. 57709, which is arguably one of the finest and best preserved examples in existence. The 255th of just 272 ever built, the 288 GTO is virtually as new throughout, having been purchased by its current owner in 1993 and stored ever since. Discovered earlier this year, the car has been carefully reconditioned and is beautifully preserved inside and out. Perhaps best of all, its odometer shows a mere 729 kilometers. This car will be on display, prior to the sale, as part of Ferrari’s Casa Ferrari display at this weekend’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
