The Shuttleworth Collection (www.shuttleworth.org), at Old Warden, Bedfordshire, held its season finale last weekend. This event is always extra special, and this year’s Race Day & Roaring Twenties closed our flying season with a lineup of aircraft producing some exciting displays including the Calidus, P51D Mustang, Hawk Speed 6 and other vintage racing aircraft from The Collection.
The full day’s entertainment was augmented with the inaugural Shuttleworth Sprint on the grass runway to honor Shuttleworth Collection founder, Dick Shuttleworth, winner of the 1935 Donington Grand Prix. The event encompassed three classes of vehicle: Veteran and Edwardian; Pre-War Vintage; Post-War ’40s/’50s/’60s. The Sprint was not timed, nor competitive and no race licenses were required. Further attractions for visitors included visiting and Collection cars, vintage bus rides, live music and free Airfix Make & Paint.
