Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) released their 2015 vintage race calendar, with 18 race events, five more races than in 2014.
The SVRA schedule for 2015 reflects significant growth on the West Coast, with the addition of the Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival at Sonoma Raceway, the Portland Vintage Racing Festival at Portland International Raceway and the Coronado Speed Festival on Coronado Island near San Diego. Two new SVRA events are also debuting on the 2015 schedule, the Southern Classic at Road Atlanta in February and Mardi Gras in October at NOLA Motorsports Park near New Orleans.
Along with Sonoma and Coronado, the SVRA Invitational events for 2015 will include the Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the U.S. Vintage National Championship at Circuit of the Americas near Austin, Texas.
“This early release of our schedule is the result of some great collaboration with the tracks and other vintage racing organizations,” stated Tony Parella, SVRA President and CEO. “They recognize that early date commitments make it easier, and more efficient, for us to work together with them to promote the event and its features. The early commitments put us in front of our entrants and fans in time be included in their early racing and vacation plans.”
The first SVRA vintage car race in 2015 will be held February 13-15, and is run with VARA at the Spring Mountain Raceway in Nevada. February’s next two events are run at a pair of iconic tracks, Road Atlanta and Sebring International Raceway. Any racer running both the Road Atlanta and Sebring events will have the opportunity to run a third non-invitational SVRA event for free. The base entry fee will be waived.
Watkins Glen starts a repaving project in August, forcing the SVRA U.S. Vintage Grand Prix to move from its traditional September weekend to July 23-26th. The event will be run on the Watkins Glen short course.
Parella commented, “SVRA’s great racing traditions at The Glen will certainly benefit from this project. SVRA will be delivering the same great US Vintage Grand Prix race weekend, only for this coming year, it will be on the short course and in July.”

A shame no Summit Point
yes…i miss going there also…
Big test year for SVRA Gold Medallion program. Get it right first time
Perhaps it’s a shame no Summit Point, but I for one commend Tony and his team for believing in vintage car racing. Seemingly only a couple years ago many questioned whether SVRA and others would even be viable in a few years. Now, SVRA is fielding 18 races in 2015. Well done to all!
SVRA runs a class operation. For those of us in the middle of the country it’s a bit hard to do many with them. The cost is also very very high for Indy and COTA. But SVRA makes you feel appreciated for being there. Other sanctioning bodies should pay attention to what they do and try to emulate it.
