Ninety-six years after it was first run, the great Targa Florio road race is to have its own museum. After convening a special meeting attended by Sicily’s own 3-time winner, Nino Vaccarella, and the descendents of the race’s founder, Vincenzo Florio, the city fathers of Collesano (a town long part of the famous road race’s route) are converting an existing building in the town into a museum, which will eventually become the Targa Florio’s permanent home.
A committee headed by Vaccarella will manage the museum. The museum is currently appealing for loans or donations of event memorabilia to be put on display.
