In these modern days of disposable everything (or so it seems), one can quickly become accustomed to replacing rather than repairing whatever device it may be that requires attention. This is especially true for racing cars, where the advance of knowledge and technology in an arena such as Formula One can make a once-fresh design obsolete after but a handful of races.
In the early days of World Championship Formula One racing, however, it was not uncommon for a single car model or type to enjoy success over several seasons by depending on updates and developments to maintain competitive currency. This was first demonstrated by the venerable Alfa Romeo 158/159 Alfetta, as well as the Ferrari 500S4 and the Maserati 250F during the 1950s.
