Last weekend, VR’s European team had a stand at the 10th and latest edition of Bicester Heritage’s Sunday Scramble. These informal events are for motoring and aviation aficionados alike, and for those lucky enough to own a classic car, motorcycle or airplane to display their pride and joy. The venue is second to none, uniquely situated on a former WW2 RAF base. Despite the holidays and other vintage and classic motoring events clashing, there was still a healthy crowd of some 2,000 enthusiasts in attendance.
For the first time, the Vintage Racecar / Vintage Roadcar folks were on hand to answer questions about the magazine and to meet and greet regular subscribers. BRDC member Barry “Whizzo” Williams, known by many for his racing at historic meetings like the Silverstone Classic and Goodwood Revival, was joined on the stand by a number of former Leyton House March mechanics and engineers, all swapping tales and anecdotes of the “good old days.” European Editor Mike Jiggle said, “It’s great to come to events like this, not only to promote our magazine, but to meet interesting people and those who are, and were, at the forefront of our sport. Their anecdotes, stories and reminisces are informative, and in some cases very humbling. We will be back at Bicester’s next Sunday Scramble on October 2.”
