VR’s European team will be out in force at the Lancaster Insurance NEC Classic Motor Show this weekend, November 11-13 — the UK’s biggest classic motor show. We trust many of our UK and European subscribers and supporters will join us on the Vintage Racecar / Vintage Roadcar stand in the Premier Hall (stand 1-40).
At this late hour we can announce the addition of Niki Lauda’s 1972 March 721G (above, Maureen Magee photo) to our array of cars. Niki Lauda is recognized as a hero in the motor racing world, having survived the horrific crash and subsequent inferno at the Nürburgring in 1976. Having already been crowned World Champion in 1975 he went on to become champion again in 1977 and 1984. Today, Lauda is still at the forefront of F1 Grand Prix racing with Mercedes who have dominated the championship in recent years winning the Drivers and Constructors Championship in 2015 and are on course to do the double again in 2016.
We’re also paying tribute to David Purley and the LEC F1 team, with former team manager Mike Earle and designer Mike Pilbeam joining us on the stand. The racing success of the Jaguar marque will be represented by the appearance of the 1990 IMSA TWR XJR10 together with designer Tony Southgate.
On the road we acknowledge Violette Cordery and the 3litre high chassis Invicta. Cordery became a recipient of the prestigious RAC Dewar Trophy for her speed and endurance records set in the car. Lastly, we salute the renaissance of the Atalanta Motor Company cut short with the outbreak of war and now producing 1930s style quality cars for the modern era — thanks to the foresight of entrepreneur Martyn Corfield.
On this Remembrance weekend, our ultimate salute will be to the many across the generations who have fought and those who’ve paid the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom in conflicts throughout the world. Tickets for the event are still available at www.necclassicmotorshow.com
